Moving house can be so stressful, and this is something that most of us will encounter. You want to have the house prepared and ready for your move in, even before all of the boxes are unpacked and all of your belongings are in there. The previous tenants should have had an end of tenancy clean carried out at the property, but it is still a good idea to have a look around the place to see if you can make any more improvements as it might not be up to your standards.
CLEAN BEFORE YOU MOVE IN
This is the only time when the property will be completely empty so you can carry out a proper clean. You can move in all of your furniture after this has been done, you don’t need to have anything in your way when you’re trying to clean.
START AT THE TOP OF THE HOUSE FIRST
This is a great idea if you don’t want dust and debris being carried around the property, especially if you have just cleaned a room. If you start at the top of the house and work your way down, this will be so much easier for you, start with ceilings or high shelves aswell to get the highest dust down first.
CLEANING THOSE HARD TO REACH PLACES
While you have the chance, try to clean all of the areas that would usually have furniture or large items in the way, it is best to get this out of the way. Clean the areas where large appliances will go such as fridges and washing machines. It means that you don’t need to worry about these areas for a while, as these items are really heavy and cannot be moved easily once they are in place. The house will feel fresh for you moving in.
MAKE SURE TO FOCUS ON COMMONLY USED AREAS
Make sure to clean areas which are used the most, such as door handles, light switches, and banisters. Clean the interior windows and the frames and give the kitchen a thorough clean, especially if there is an oven and hob already in there which has previously been used. You want to feel like it is a brand new home!
If the property is already fitted with kitchen appliances, you need to make sure that all of the dirt or grime from the previous tenants is completely removed. Use a scrubbing brush to get to those hard to clean places, and a strong cleaner to get through all of the dirt. Use an oven cleaner on the oven to really make it sparkle. If there is a washing machine and fridge already in there, you will need to pull them out to clean properly behind them. If you can remove all of the dirt from the kitchen before you move in, the place will seem brand new home before you cook in there.
The bathroom is one of the most commonly used rooms in any house, and you don’t know what condition it has been left in before your move-in. You should give the bathroom a thorough clean, the bath and sink should be wiped down and clean the toilet properly. If you have microfibre cloths, give the tiles a clean and shine to make the bathroom feel as if it has never been used.
CLEANING THE FLOORS
Some properties will have carpet in there already, so it may be an idea to get the carpets professionally washed. You can give them a vacuum to remove any dust or debris in the meantime. So basically, give your new house a thorough clean to remove any dirt which may have been left from the previous tenants. You want to move into a home, not just a house!
