Always Wash And Dry Your Hands Thoroughly

This is one of the most underrated and most effective ways to keep germs away. All employees should be doing this at regular intervals to avoid the spread of germs in the office. It is recommended that you wash your hands for a minimum of 15 seconds, using soap and warm water. Drying your hands is just as important as washing them to thoroughly remove bacteria.

Thermostat Temperature

Dry air can cause an increase in cold and flu viruses. Moisture in the air reduces viruses from spreading which in turn will keep you healthy. In the office, the air is usually either too cold or too hot. This can mean changes to the thermostat trying to find the right temperature to please everyone. This changing in temperature can cause negative effects.

The ideal temperature for an occupied room is between 20 and 23 degrees in Winter and between 23 and 26 degrees in Summer. The humidity should be kept between 30 and 60 percent to prevent mould from spreading and to promote fresh air.

Deep Cleaning The Office

Your immune system will really benefit from a deep clean being carried out at your office. It is recommended that the radiators and heaters and all of the air vents in the building are thoroughly cleaned at the beginning of the cold season before you start using the central heating regularly.

If you can remove all of the dust and debris from these areas, the air moisture will be better maintained and this, in turn, will improve the health of all employees.

Disinfecting The Office

This should be something that is carried out daily in the office. You are touching keyboards, door handles and handling food during the working day.

In the office, if any equipment is being shared then it is even more likely that germs and viruses will be spread. You should use wipes to clean down items such as:

  • Phones and stationery
  • Desks and office chairs
  • Computer mouses and keyboards

Ensure Communal Areas Are Kept Clean

Communal areas such as break rooms, canteens and kitchens should be viewed as contamination risk areas. Any area where food is stored and consumed should be dusted regularly, tidied and given a proper clean.

Countertops and tables should be wiped daily to prevent any germs from spreading. This is due to the high volume of traffic in these areas, so a disinfectant should be used.

Appliances such as kettles, microwaves, fridges, and toasters should all be wiped daily also.
